Plug-in hybrid sales are steadily growing in Australia, and PHEV pioneer Mitsubishi still sits atop the charts.
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) aren’t anywhere near as popular as conventional hybrids or battery-electric vehicles, but they’re growing in popularity.
In the first half of 2024, sales of PHEVs were up 129.6 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Mitsubishi’s first-mover advantage is still paying off, with its Outlander and Eclipse Cross remaining Australia’s most popular PHEVs.
Mazda’s CX-60 is sitting in third place, with its PHEV variants accounting for over a third of the nameplate’s total sales.
A new name, the BYD Sealion 6, has stormed into the top 10 after a single month of deliveries, blasting past the MG HS – though its rival Chinese PHEV is set for an imminent replacement.
Rounding out the top 10 PHEVs are the Volvo XC60, Cupra FormentorPorsche Cayenne, Audi Q5 and supply-constrained Lexus NX.
