Mitsubishi
Dating back to 1870, the Mitsubishi Group is one of Japan's largest and oldest companies, with roots in shipping, aircraft, banking, insurance, real estate and other industries covered by Mitsubishi Corporation, which was established in 1950 and today is Japan's largest general trading company.
Under the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries banner it owns Nikon Corporation, Mitsubishi Power, Mitsubishi Atomic, Mitsubishi Chemical and Mitsubishi Motors, which is now part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Mitsubishi Motors has been present in Australia since the 1960s, but its models were badged as Chryslers until the US automaker struck financial trouble in the 1970s, when Mitsubishi assumed local control of the brand, rebranded its products and began producing vehicles like the Magna and 380 outside Adelaide.
Mitsubishi has been a top-10 auto brand in Australia since then and today markets its top-selling Triton ute alongside a range of SUVs including the popular ASX, the bigger Eclipse Cross and the mid-size Outlander (the latter two available with plug-in hybrid power), plus the large Pajero Sport off-road SUV, via around 200 dealers and service centres across the country.
