Tight supply of the Volkswagen Tiguan means sales will wrap up for most variants ahead of the launch of a replacement model.

Supply of the Volkswagen Tiguan has seen its share of interruptions, and CarExpert understands the German brand is choosing to wind up sales ahead of the arrival of a replacement.
Volkswagen has already confirmed it has paused orders for the all-wheel drive 132TSI, 147TDI and 162TSI, but CarExpert understands these are unlikely to be reopened.
With the debut of a new-generation five-seat Tiguan imminent – as seen in increasingly revealing spy photos, suggesting a reveal this year – CarExpert therefore understands orders will likely remain paused until the new model arrives.
Stronger supply of the longer Tiguan Allspace will help Volkswagen tide buyers over until the five-seat model comes.
Examples of the previously revealed Monochrome edition have already been built, and front-wheel drive 110TSI and all-wheel drive R models will continue coming during the year. That’s despite a previously announced hold on R models.
Volkswagen has confirmed it will import an additional 1000 Tiguan Rs this year plus a few hundred Grid Editions. These will arrive progressively during the year.
Tiguan Allspace supply has remained uninterrupted over the past several months. It’s on a slightly different product lifecycle, and is sourced from Mexico instead of Germany like the shorter model.
Volkswagen has also bolstered the longer crossover with a Monochrome edition of its own, plus the Adventure which drops the third row of seating.
Prototypes of the next ‘regular’ Tiguan have been shedding more and more camouflage, revealing a more curvaceous profile.
It’s expected the new Tiguan will migrate to the latest MQB Evo platform like the Golf 8 and Skoda Octavia – with petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
An electric counterpart will reportedly follow in 2026, though it’s expected to use MEB Plus underpinnings.
The current-generation model has been in production since 2016, with the typical vehicle life-cycle lasting 7-8 years.
It was first revealed in September 2015, with the Allspace – the only body style offered in North America – revealed in January 2017.
Because of this staggered rollout, the mid-life updates for the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace came at different times – the former was revealed in January 2021 and went on sale a few months later, and the latter was revealed in December 2021 and went on sale in early 2022.
