The Volkswagen Tiguan line-up will be bolstered by a stealthy pair of special editions for the 2023 model year, reviving yet another legacy nameplate.
Dubbed the Volkswagen Tiguan Monochrome and Tiguan Allspace Monochrome, the greyscale duo revive a special-edition nameplate first worn by the larger Touareg in 2018 with a similar concept.
As the name suggests, there’s a lot of shades, not colours at play here. Like the T-Roc R and Tiguan R Grid Editions, these new models aim to alleviate chip-related supply constraints by offering a high-grade drivetrain with a lower level of standard spec compared to the core variant on which they’re based.
In the case of the Tiguan Monochrome models, both the five-seat Tiguan and seven-seat Tiguan Allspace draw upon the existing 162TSI R-Line specification, removing some semiconductor-intensive luxury features but adding value in other areas, as well as lowering the list price by up to $4100 – priced from $53,390 and $56,690 plus on-roads respectively.
Tiguan Monochrome highlights include:
Features removed (from 162TSI R-Line) include:
Power in both Monochrome editions comes from a 162kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine teamed with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch auto and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Compared to their 162TSI R-Line equivalents, the five-seat Tiguan Monochrome represents a saving of $3900 (incl. metallic paint), while the Tiguan Allspace Monochrome is $4100 more affordable than the variant on which it’s based.
Only two cost options are available – a $2100 panoramic sunroof, as well as Oryx White Pearlescent exterior paint which is exclusively available on Tiguan Monochrome models for $900.
Standard colours for the Tiguan Monochrome include Reflex Silver Metallic, Dolphin Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, while the Tiguan Allspace Monochrome is available in Pyrite Silver Metallic, Platinum Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect.
VW Australia says the Tiguan Monochrome editions are available to order now, with deliveries to commence in January 2023.
