The third-generation Range Rover Sport arrives in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2022, priced from $139,160 before on-road costs.
It’s available to order now, with a configurator live on the Land Rover website.
The base price is up by around $20,000 over the outgoing Range Rover Sport SE D250.
The range will initially comprise a range of mild-hybrid inline-six diesels plus the new six-cylinder P510e plug-in hybrid.
A new flagship 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 will be available to order later in 2022 via an “exclusive online sales event”, with mild-hybrid inline-six petrol engines coming in 2023 and an electric model due in 2024.
There’s no longer a third row of seating in the Range Rover Sport, so if you’re hauling more than four other occupants, you’ll need to look at a Land Rover Defender or Discovery or splurge and go for the new Range Rover.

Engines
The powertrain lineup consists almost entirely of 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engines.
The lowest-emission powertrain, at least until the pure-electric version arrives in 2024, is the P510e plug-in hybrid. This mates an ‘Ingenium’ 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor and a 38.2kWh battery.
Total system outputs are 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds.
The other range-topping powertrain is the new BMW-sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8, which pumps out 390kW and 750Nm – good for a 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds with launch control engaged.
There’s a further range of 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all of which use a 48V mild-hybrid system with a belt-integrated starter generator.
These comprise:
- D250 diesel: 183kW and 600Nm, 0-100km/h in 8 seconds
- D300 diesel: 221kW and 650Nm, 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds
- D350 diesel: 258kW and 700Nm, 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds
- P360 petrol: 265kW and 500Nm, 0-100km/h in 6 seconds
- P400 petrol: 294kW and 550Nm, 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds
Regardless of powertrain, the Range Rover Sport sends power to the ground to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF. All models also come with air suspension.
All models feature a single-speed transfer box, bar the P510e which uses a twin-speed transfer box. This is a $690 option across the rest of the range.
The P510e also comes standard with an electronic active differential, all-wheel steering, and Dynamic Air Suspension with Dynamic Response Pro.
Fuel Economy
Combined cycle fuel economy for the Range Rover Sport is as follows:
- D250: 7.2L/100km
- D300: 7.2L/100km
- P360: 9.4L/100km
- P400: 9.4L/100km
- P510e: 1.6L/100km
- P530: 11.8L/100km
Electric range for the P510e is more than 125km, albeit under the generous NEDC cycle.
Land Rover says the P510e has fast-charging capability, allowing you to charge from 0 to 80 per cent in less than an hour with a 50kW rapid charger, while a full charge with a 7.2kW AC wallbox will take less than five hours.
The Land Rover Remote app allows you to pre-condition the cabin and manage timed charging functions, including restricting the car to only charge at low-cost hours. There’s also a smart-charging function that charges the vehicle as efficiently as possible based on a planned departure time set by the driver.
Dimensions
The Range Rover Sport measures 4946mm long, 2209mm wide (including the mirrors), and 1820mm tall, spanning a 2997mm wheelbase.
Maximum ground clearance is 274mm on the P510e and 281mm on all other variants, while all models feature a 30-degree departure angle.
Approach and departure angles are 33 degrees and 26.9 degrees, respectively, on all bar the plug-in hybrid where they’re 29.7 and 24.5 degrees.
All models have a 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity except for the P510e, which has a 3.0t capacity.
Servicing and Warranty
Land Rover backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty with five years of roadside assistance.
A five-year service plan is available across the range. This costs $3200 in diesel models, $2700 in petrol and plug-in hybrid models, and $3800 in the V8.
