More than 1600 examples of the current-generation Ford Ranger ute are being recalled due to a braking fault.
“Due to a software issue, the brake boost function may not operate as intended,” the company says in its product safety recall notice.
“As a result, braking could be reduced requiring greater pedal force and potentially increasing the vehicle’s stopping distance.
“Note: If this occurs, the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Brake telltales will illuminate warning lights and audible alert on the instrument cluster.
“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Ford dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge.
