The latest generations of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have both received a five-star rating from safety authority ANCAP.
The flagship Range Rover received an adult occupant protection rating of 84 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 86 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 72 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 84 per cent.
The Range Rover Sport’s rating was based on testing of its larger sibling, though additional frontal offset and oblique pole tests were conducted on a plug-in hybrid Sport to confirm the results.
It received similar category ratings: 85 per cent for adult occupant protection, 86 per cent for child occupant protection, 69 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 84 per cent for safety assist.
The five-star ratings for both SUVs apply to all variants in their respective model ranges.
The safety authority praised the performance of the two SUVs’ autonomous emergency braking system, and awarded full points for adult and child occupant protection in the side impact test and for the protection of the driver in the oblique pole test.

“As we approach the end of this 2020-2022 protocol period and look ahead to a broadened test regime from 2023, it is pleasing to see a continued high level of safety performance offered from a range of brands,” said ANCAP chief executive officer Carla Hoorweg.
