Volkswagen’s SUV range continues to grow with its newly introduced, Golf-based T-Roc gaining a new base model.
The front-wheel drive T-Roc 110TSI Style is the new entry point to the range, priced at $33,990 before on-road costs. It’ll arrive in local showrooms in November.
Its price slots it neatly between the range-topping T-Cross 85TSI Style ($30,990) and the Tiguan 110TSI Trendline ($34,490) and pits it directly against up-spec small SUVs like the Kia Seltos Sport+ 2.0-litre ($33,690) and Mazda CX-3 Akari ($33,950).
It also lowers the cost of entry to the T-Roc range by almost $7000 compared to the current entry-level model, the 140TSI Sport. Volkswagen says it was originally going to slot a four-cylinder T-Cross in at this price point but was able to price this new T-Roc competitively.
It uses a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque.
It’s available exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive and achieves 6.2L/100km on the ADR combined cycle.
The 110TSI Style also eschews the 140TSI Sport’s independent rear suspension for a torsion-beam rear axle. Naturally, there’s no adaptive suspension either.
Standard safety equipment include low-speed autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There’s also a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, plus adaptive cruise control and LED headlights.
Inside, you’ll find a touchscreen 8.0-inch infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, and ambient lighting. The 110TSI Style also features standard rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, proximity entry and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Two major option packages are available. The $2000 Sound & Vision package adds Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit plus satellite navigation and a Beats premium sound system, while the $3800 Luxury package adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, power tailgate and a panoramic sunroof.
While the Style offers a range of colours, every model receives a gloss black roof, A-pillars and exterior mirrors.
