This is our best look yet at the the upcoming, all-electric Polestar 5 liftback before it’s launched in 2024.
According to patent images submitted on May 18 by Polestar to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Polestar 5 looks like a slightly toned-down version of the Precept concept revealed in 2020.
We’ve previously seen a few different angles of the upcoming Polestar 5 when it was announced, but these patent images give us a look at every single side.
While the overall silhouette and design are retained from the prototype, there are some notable changes. These include the lack of rear-hinged rear doors, more visible flush-fitting door handles, and regular mirrors instead of camera pods.
Up front, the production Polestar 5 has a split headlight design with the daytime running lights in the upper section and the main low- and high-beams in the lower section. There are also small air vents integrated in the lower headlight section.
Other notable design features at the front include a front-facing camera, a lower air intake, and a front splitter.
As previously seen, the Polestar 5 has a very shallow rear windscreen, which covers only half the expected area.
Down back there’s also a high-mounted rear-view camera, full-width light bar, and a large diffuser.
Polestar hasn’t fully detailed the interior design for the electric fastback, but a previous teaser image partially showed its design remains true to the concept’s minimalist dashboard.
Ahead of the driver is a small instrumentation screen, while in the centre is a large portrait-oriented touchscreen, most likely running Google Android Automotive OS.

Polestar Precept concept
As previously detailed, the Polestar 5 will be built on aluminium chassis which will apparently be more rigid than current two-door sports cars or supercars, according to Polestar.
The Swedish-Chinese automaker hasn’t revealed details of the four-door grand tourer’s electric powertrain, such as its power and torque outputs, battery size and range.
As previously mentioned, Polestar is planning the revealed the Polestar 5 in 2024.
Polestar’s first vehicle to arrive locally was the Polestar 2 electric sedan. It touched down earlier in 2022, and shares its CMA underpinnings with the Volvo XC40.
Polestar also recently confirmed it plans to reveal its next vehicle, the Polestar 3 “electric performance SUV”, in October 2022.
Set to be produced in the USA and China, the Polestar was previously previewed in prototype form wearing black-and-white camouflage.

The Polestar 3 will be a sleeker counterpart to the next-generation Volvo XC90 which shares its SPA2 architecture.
There’s also the Polestar 4, a smaller coupe SUV, which is planned to be revealed in 2023.
As previously reported, Polestar intends to merge with Gore Guggenheim, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), and get listed on the Nasdaq. This deal is expected to close imminently.
