If the regular Amarok V6 isn’t good enough for you and the Walkinshaw-fettled W580 range is a little too full-on, Volkswagen has an answer for you.
Volkswagen Commerical has revealed two limited-production off-road packages for the Amarok in collaboration with German off-road partner Seikel, called the Alpine and Alpine Plus.
Both of these off-road packages will be available on the Amarok V6 Core Auto, V6 Sportline, Highline, and Aventura from the second quarter of 2022.
Limited to 100 units in total, the Amarok Alpine and Alpine Plus gain a number of off-road upgrades designed to “further lift the rough terrain performance of the brand’s class-leading utes”.
The Alpine and Alpine Plus packages also backed by Volkswagen’s five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
The $6090 Alpine off-road package features the following:
- Koni RAID off-road suspension kit (25mm lift)
- Front and rear twin-tube shock absorbers, with 70mm bore
- Front Eibach springs
- Cast steel special lower retainer for front shock absorbers
- Top and bottom front spring plates
- Fully pre-assembled front suspension strut unit
- Rear 25mm spacer with special leaf spring brackets and additional supports and bump stops
- Polyethylene snorkel
- Wheel arch cladding
The $12,090 Alpine Plus package adds the following:
- Rock sliders
- Door protective cladding
- Front and rear differential breather kit
- Transmission breather kit
- Transfer case breather kit
- Engine, transmission and rear differential protective plates
A $1590 off-road tyre package, available only on the Amarok V6 Sportline and Highline, adds the following:
- General Grabber AT3 255/60 R18 112H XL tyres (four, plus sapre)
These tyres have “large sidewall lugs that protect the tyre body from stones, stacked deflection ribs that protection the upper sidewall area by deflecting obstacles away from the tyre body, and protection ribs that shield the tyre and bead area from damage caused by curbstones and off-road obstacles”.
“From a V6 Core Auto with an Alpine or Alpine Plus off-road package, through to our flagship Walkinshaw-enhanced models, the Amarok offers a breath of choice to match its breathtaking performance,” said brand director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle, Ryan Davies.

The current-generation Amarok is on its last legs, as it has been produced since 2010. The next-generation Amarok is going to be built on the same bones as the new-generation Ford Ranger.
Volkswagen has teased its new Amarok a number of times already and it’ll go on sale in 2022.
We’re not exactly sure how much visual separation there’ll be between the Amarok and Ranger, but we can see in the official previews the new Amarok will have side mirrors exactly like the ones used on the current Ranger.
Powering the new-generation Ford Ranger at launch is single- and bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel options, as well as a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6.
There’s also the baja-ready Ranger Raptor that’s powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine.
Ford Ranger Wildtrak
At this stage it’s unclear if the new-generation Amarok will share these engines or not.
With most jointly developed utes, differentiation is typically limited to unique front-end and lighting signatures.
That said, the previous generation Mazda BT-50 and outgoing Ford Ranger pair had vastly different exterior and interior designs.
During 2021, Volkswagen sold a total of 7659 Amarok 4×4 models, which was outsold by the likes of the Ford Ranger 4×4 (45,986 sales), Toyota HiLux 4×4 (39,587 sales), Isuzu D-Max 4×4 (18,639 sales), and Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 (16,333 sales).
