The smallest, angriest Fiat 500 just keeps on keeping on.
The hot Abarth 595 has been priced for 2022, with a single trim level offered in a choice of hatchback or convertible bodies.
Under the skin, the Abarth 595 is built on the same bones as the Fiat 500 first revealed in 2007. It’s been updated multiple times throughout its life, and kept fresh with a constant stream of special editions in Australia.
For 2022, Abarth is leaning into its rally heritage with a matte Rally Blue paint option and a set of wheels inspired by those of the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally.
Gone is the entry-level City specification, as Abarth moves to a simpler (and racier) range.
The 595 Competizione goes head-to-head with the Ford Fiesta ST and Hyundai i20 N.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Power in the Abarth 595 Competizione comes from a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine.
Peak power is 132kW, and peak torque is 250Nm. A six-speed manual transmission is the only option.
Claimed fuel economy in the Abarth 595 is 6.0L/100km on the combined cycle.
The car has a 35L fuel tank, and drinks 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
The Abarth 595 measures 3657mm long, 1627mm wide and 1485mm tall, on a 2300mmwheelbase.
The hatchback tips the scales at 1045kg, the Convertible at 1085kg.
The Abarth 595 doesn’t have an ANCAP rating, although the Fiat 500 Pop has a five-star rating from 2007.
Standard safety equipment include seven airbags, and rear parking sensors.
There are no active safety features such as autonomous emergency braking on the Abarth 595.
The Abarth 595 is backed by a three-year, 150,000km warranty.
