Abarth
Abarth is a high-performance brand of Italian cars, which was originally founded in 1949 by Carlo Abarth. The company has a rich history in motorsports and is known for producing small, lightweight sports cars with impressive performance capabilities.
Abarth's early success came in the 1950s and 1960s, when its cars dominated many international racing circuits. Some of the most famous Abarth models from this era include the Abarth 750 and the Abarth 1000. These cars were characterised by their lightweight construction, advanced engines and innovative design features, which allowed them to achieve impressive speeds and performance.
In 1971, Abarth was acquired by the Fiat Group and has since become the high-performance division of the Fiat brand. Today, Abarth produces a range of small, sporty cars based on Fiat models, including the Abarth 595 and 695 and the newer Abarth 500e. These cars are known for their agile handling, punchy engines and distinctive styling, which sets them apart from other small sports cars on the market.
In Australia the Abarth brand remains super-niche but attracts a strong cult following.
