This China-made BYD Atto 3, a renamed version of a car called Yuan Plus, will be sold online in Australia kicking off at $44,381 before on-road costs, with deliveries estimated to begin in July 2022 according to the company.
It fits well below the rebate cutoff for the Australian States that offer such programs and can be locked in with a $1000 refundable deposit.
That asking price compares well with the (also Chinese) MG ZS EV, which has become the number-two electric car in the country by sales behind the Shanghai-assembled Tesla Model 3.

CarExpert High Resolution Photos of the BYD Atto 3 EV
The BYD ATTO 3's exterior is sculpted to be modern, but not over the top. The wheels are probably the only aspect of the car that makes it stand out as something abnormal - in this case, an EV.
Other than that, it has a very European look to it and certainly from our first impressions, is a good looking vehicle.
Despite its price point, the interior of the BYD ATTO 3 looks modern and well appointed.
We are yet to see and assess one in person, but from the images we would certainly rate it higher than some of its contemporary rivals.
What remains to be seen is whether the fit and finish is up to standard, and if the infotainment system is bug-free and effective. So far as we can tell, there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which is a bit of a let down for such a modern car.
The steering wheel, the large screen, the gearstick, and even the buttons on the centre console all look very modern and futuristic. We particularly like the way the speakers protrude from the doors and the use of multi-tone colours throughout the interior.
From an electric vehicle perspective, the Atto 3 uses a domestic three-pin Plug AC Charger. It supports both AC Charging Port - Type 2 and DC Charging Port - CCS 2.
It also includes V2L, or vehicle to load. The idea is that you can use your BYD vehicle to power external items, such as a coffee machine or stove when camping.
BYD claims the external discharge power rating to be3300w, and the discharge voltage is 220V household voltage, which provides support for household appliances.
As with all EV's currently on sale, it also supports 3 Phase charging capability.
As from a, infotainment perspective, all we know so far is that the Atto 3 has a 12.8-inch central touchscreen.

There are not many details around how often BYD intends to charge for servicing.
All that work will be carried out by MyCar service centres (previously KMart Tyre and Auto) around the country.
Our expert take on BYD Atto 3 EV drivability.
We are yet to drive the BYD ATTO 3, but look forward to getting behind the wheel of the vehicle in due time to discover if it's a comfortable place to be for both inner-city driving and long distance travel.
What we do know is that the ATTO 3 is front-wheel drive and takes 7.3 seconds to get from 0-100km/h. That's reasonable, but not what we are used to from the faster EVs from brands like Tesla.
The EV system is rated as having 150kW of power and 310Nm of torque. The Chinese brand has yet to disclose the weight of the vehicle officially, but we believe it to be around 1605kg.
What colours are available for the BYD Atto 3 EV
Currently Australian-delivered BYD ATTO 3s are available in white by default with a $700 option to upgrade to Grey or Blue.
Red and Green are available in other markets and may find themselves here in the future.
There is currently no available information on servicing requirements, however given other EVs have no real timeline for servicing, we suspect it will be more around consumables like tyres, brake pads.
BYD says the battery capacity will decrease with time and use, and provides a seven-year or 160,000km battery warranty. It does not yet specify at which percentage capacity or battery deterioration point, the battery will be replaced.
The vehicle itself comes with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
