BYD is updating its popular Atto 3 electric SUV in right-hand drive markets like Japan and Singapore, with a larger touchscreen and some cosmetic tweaks.
We’ve contacted BYD Australia to confirm when these updates will arrive here.
In markets like Japan, the rotating 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen has been swapped out for a 15.6-inch unit.
A new colour also joins the Atto 3’s limited palette: Cosmos Black.
Speaking of black, the silver textured D-pillar trim is now finished in black, as is the trim around the windows.
Cosmos Black Atto 3s also feature a darker two-tone interior colourway, with black and dark blue upholstery. All other exterior colours stick with a dark blue and light grey interior.
The Atto 3 also rides on new Continental Eco Contact 6 tyres, ditching the old Atlas Batman rubber.
BYD Japan has also confirmed the sunshade is thicker.
Software updates being rolled out include a new proximity alarm sound, the linking of Spotify with the ambient lighting, and new browser and karaoke apps.
The Atto 3 was Australia’s third best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in 2023, with 11,042 sales – behind the Tesla Model Y (28,769) and Model 3 (17,347), but well ahead of the fourth-place MG 4 (3134).
After sitting on the periphery of the EV market in Australia with the T3 van and e6 people mover, the brand’s assault on our market began in earnest in 2022 with the popular Atto 3.
Last year, it was joined by the Dolphin hatchback and Seal sedan, and this year BYD will launch its plug-in hybrid Seal U SUV plus another three vehicles.
