    About the Toyota LandCruiser 70

    Last updated Dec 18, 2024

Toyota Australia has detailed pricing for its updated LandCruiser 70 Series range ahead of vehicles arriving in showrooms this November.

The range now opens at $75,600 before on-roads for the LandCruiser 76 Series Wagon WorkMate with the new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel. This is $4600 more than where the pre-update range started.

The LandCruiser 70 Series range now extends all the way to $87,600 before on-roads for the LandCruiser 79 Series double-cab chassis GXL with the 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel. This is $8400 more than the pre-update model.

As part of the update Toyota has introduced the “tried-and-tested” 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque. It’s available exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, which is a first for the iconic model.

    Cost of ownership

What are the running and servicing costs of a Toyota LandCruiser 70?

Maintenance is required every 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. For a car that’s relied upon by so many, having to visit your dealership twice yearly is a big miss.

The first 10 services each cost $525 in the both models.

How does the 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 drive?

Our expert take on Toyota LandCruiser 70 drivability.

The 1VD-FTV 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel is still available in the updated LandCruiser 70 Series. It’s offered on almost every single variant, apart from the entry-level 76 Series Wagon WorkMate, which can only be had with the new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

LandCruiser 70 Series models with the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine are $4100 cheaper than ones equipped with the 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine.

Automatic transmission-equipped models feature a power/haul mode, as well as a second start switch which starts the vehicle in second gear for better traction.

A transmission guard adds extra underbody protection for the oil pan, while the breather hose has been raised to 900mm to assist water crossing performance.
