    About the Nissan Pathfinder

    Last updated Dec 18, 2024

The Nissan Pathfinder is back, and the latest generation offers considerably more technology and a much fresher look inside and out than before.

The range opens with a front-wheel drive ST, slotting below the all-wheel drive ST-L, the front- or all-wheel drive Ti, and the flagship, all-wheel drive Ti-L.

The Pathfinder’s available four-wheel drive system features direct coupling and a range of terrain modes, comprising Snow, Sand, Mud/Rut plus a dedicated Tow mode. The latter features an onboard trailer stability program.

While Nissan Australia claims the new Pathfinder offers “go-anywhere capability” and is keen to call this version more “rugged” than its chief competitors, it’s not some body-on-frame 4×4 with low-range like the third-generation model sold between 2005 and 2012 (or, for that matter, a Toyota Prado).

The only powertrain is a 3.5-litre V6, now mated with a nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission instead of a CVT.

    Pros

    • Newfound rugged design is a winner
    • Loads of features and tech
    • Sharper dynamics and refinement are most welcome

    Cons

    • More expensive than some rivals
    • Service costs are dearer than some competitors
    • Same engine as its predecessor

    2024 Nissan Pathfinder Exterior

A superb modern design with smart lines that both give the new Pathfinder a stylish edge but also make what is a rather large SUV look well proportioned and agile.

Nissan's design team has utilised the same new family design elements as seen on the X-Trail and Qashqai.

    2024 Nissan Pathfinder Interior

The new Nissan Pathfinder's interior is a substantial improvement over the old vehicle. We will be reviewing the model in due course and will update with our impressions.

    2024 Nissan Pathfinder Infotainment

The base model Pathfinder ST still packs a pretty decent infotainment system with a a 9.0-inch touchscreen, 10.8-inch head-up display and 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster display. There is support for wireless Apple CarPlay but Android users will still need to plug in. The ST's sound system makes do with six-speakers.

    Inside, occupants will find a generous 2 x USB-A, 2 x USB-C and 2 x 12V outlets.

Step up to the Pathfinder STL and you will get the much needed surround-view camera with moving-object sensors. We feel this should be standard on the base model as well.

Further up the range, the Pathfinder Ti adds wireless phone charging (handy when you have wireless CarPlay), a much better 13-speaker BOSE audio system and third-row USB-A port

The top spec Ti-L gains a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
