The 2020 MG ZS is available with two powertrains and three trim levels. Prices start at $20,990 drive-away for the base ZS Excite and top out at $24,990 drive-away for the ZS Essence.
A battery-electric version, the e-ZS, will arrive later in 2020.
The MG ZS slots in below the mid-size HS and rivals the Mazda CX-3 and Mitsubishi ASX.
All prices exclude on-road costs
The base 2020 MG ZS Excite comes with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder producing 84kW and 150Nm. It’s mated exclusively to a four-speed automatictransmission.
Excite Plus and Essence models use a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine with 82kW and 160Nm that’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
All ZS models are front-wheel drive.
With the base 1.5-litre, the 2020 MG ZS consumes 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle. It requires 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
The turbocharged 1.0-litre consumes 6.7L/100km on the combined cycle and also requires 95RON premium unleaded.
The 2020 MG ZS measures 4314mm long, 1620mm tall (1644mm including roof rails) and 1809mm wide.
The MG HS’s total luggage space is 359L, increasing to a maximum of 1166L with the second row folded.
When the MG ZS was tested by ANCAP in 2017, it received a rating of four stars.
That rating was based on a frontal offset rating of 10.46 out of 16 and a side-impact score of 16 out of 16. Whiplash and pedestrian protection were assessed as Good and Acceptable, respectively.
All 2020 MG ZS models come standard with anti-lock brakes and front, front-side and front-curtain airbags.
The base 2020 MG ZS Excite comes with the following standard features:
The MG ZS Excite Plus has the same feature list but replaces the 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-pot.
The MG ZS Essence adds the following:
MG doesn’t currently offer capped-price servicing for the ZS, though it does offer a service plan. The MG ZS also has a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
