MG Motor Australia has slashed service costs for its QS seven-seat SUV to less than half the outlay of when the current model was introduced to Australian showrooms earlier this year.
A confidential dealer bulletin sighted by CarExpert revealed the drastic changes for the QS – a rival to the Kia Sorentoand Volkswagen Tayron – with cuts as high as 80 per cent to individual servicing prices with immediate effect.
The biggest single fall sees the 90,000km service for the QS Essence AWD drop from $2920 to $599 – a fall of 79.5 per cent and $2321 as the automaker looked to wind back previous pricing which saw it cost more to service than even the Audi Q7 luxury SUV.
The document also revealed a more than 50 per cent reduction in the costs of servicing over MG’s seven years at the prescribed 12-month/15,000km intervals.

It brings the total scheduled servicing costs for the QS Essence AWD over the first seven years and 105,000km down from $6962 to $2893 – a reduction of $4069.
Scheduled servicing the 2.0T front-wheel drive QS Excite will now cost $2693 over the same seven-year period, a saving of $3643 over the previous $6336 charge.
MG offered a seven-year, unlimited kilometre warranty on vehicles delivered before August 2024, with vehicles sold after this date subject to a 10-year/250,000km warranty but only if they service within MG’s dealer network.

For context, the Chery Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid costs $3174 to service over the same period, while Skoda offers a seven-year service package on its Kodiaq SUV for $3700.
According to the bulletin, the cuts were “designed to strengthen both the sales and aftersales experience” and will also aid customer retention.
The QS arrived in Australia in March with an introductory price of $46,990 drive-away for the QS Excite and the QS Essence at $50,990 drive-away.
MG was Australia’s seventh best-selling brand last year, and the best-selling Chinese-owned brand.
Fellow Chinese brand GWM sat in 10th place. But in the first half of this year, MG was in 10th place, with GWM in seventh and BYD in eight.
Last month, MG was one of four Chinese brands in the top ten, finishing ninth behind BYD (sixth) and GWM (eighth), but ahead of Chery.
