The next generation of Ford’s Toyota HiAce rival has been priced, ahead of customer deliveries beginning in the second quarter of 2024.
The 2024 Ford Transit Custom range will open at $55,990 before on-road costs, an increase of $5800 over the outgoing base model.
The long-wheelbase version is $1000 more. Only one roof height is available for now.
Ford has previously confirmed the electric E-Transit Custom is also coming in 2024, but for now it has detailed only the diesel-powered range. While prices have increased significantly, there’s more standard tech than before.

The old 8.0-inch screen is replaced with a significantly larger 13-inch unit, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can now be connected wirelessly.
A wireless phone charger is standard, as is – for the first time in a Ford in Australia – a 5G embedded modem.
The transmission shifter has been moved to the column and there’s now an electric parking brake, allowing the driver to enter easily from either side and go into the back without incident.
Ford also says it has increased space up front by moving the front wheels and strut towers further forward, while the Transit Custom has a shorter front overhang and is lighter than its predecessor.

The 2024 Ford Transit Custom is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 125kW of power and 390Nm of torque, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new-generation model also boasts independent rear suspension for greater comfort, while braked towing capacity has been bumped 600kg to 2500kg.
The load floor is lower, and the Transit Custom will slide under the 2m barrier found in many parking lots. It’s also easier to climb into the load compartment thanks to a new access step, and it’s easier to see back there with the old halogen load bay lights replaced with ‘ultra-bright’ LEDs.
There’s still a wide range of safety features, bolstered by a safe exit warning feature. There’s also a new roof-mounted airbag for the front passenger, which allows the passenger to make use of dashboard storage large enough for a laptop.
