For a short time, the Amarok Ultimate won’t be the ultimate Amarok.
Volkswagen is introducing a special edition model called the Amarok V6 580S, priced at $70,990 before on-road costs.
It’ll be launched next month across Volkswagen’s dealer network and online, but is available to order now. Just 200 units will be made available.
It’s priced $1800 less than the Amarok Ultimate, but offers more equipment.
There’s a body-coloured “styling bar” and a black roll cover, plus two 86-watt LED lights on the roof.
Unique to the 580S is its Carbon Steel Grey metallic paintwork, though it’ll also be available in the existing Candy White and Deep Black Pearl colours.
The 20-inch gloss black Talca alloy wheels are also shared with the Highline V6 580 Black.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in “Art Velour” trim instead of the Ultimate’s partial Nappa leather trim.
The 580S uses the more powerful of the Amarok’s two 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engines, producing 190kW of power and 580Nm of torque – hence the name.
As with the Ultimate, there’s a 6.33-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation, as well as heated front seats, bi-xenon headlights, and front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
The 580S is also covered by the same five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty plus five years of capped-price servicing. The first five services cost $445, $605, $554, $894 and $445.
