The Volkswagen Golf wagon range, including the hot R, has fallen victim to Australia's love of SUVs, officially axed for 2024.

Yet another affordable wagon in Australia is dead.
Volkswagen has confirmed the Golf and Golf R wagons are no longer available to order in Australia, and they won’t be coming back.
Anyone who already has their money down for one will get their vehicle, but prospective customers will otherwise have to find a vehicle in dealer stock.
With the Ford Focus, Renault Megane, and Holden Astra wagons also gone, the only compact wagons still on sale locally are the Skoda Octavia, Subaru WRX Sportswagon, and Peugeot 308 SW.
“It’s a very deliberate decision to leave space within our dealerships, within our narrative to customers,” said Volkswagen Australia managing director Michael Szaniecki.
“It makes no sense to have Arteon, Passat, [and Golf Wagon] with ID.4, ID.3, ID.5,” Mr Szaniecki told CarExpert.
Given the Passat and Arteon Shooting Brake have also been axed Down Under, you currently can’t order a new Volkswagen wagon in Australia.
That may not be the case forever though, with the electric ID.7 Shooting Brake not ruled out for our market.
Volkswagen has offered a Golf wagon in Australia since 2010, when the Mk V wagon debuted. The Golf R wagon has been a fixture since the Mk 7 model launched in 2015.
