Renault has rounded out its range of European electric vans with the reveal of the mid-sized Trafic E-Tech Electric this week.
The Trafic E-Tech Electric sits between the smaller Kangoo E-Tech (now into its second EV generation) and larger Master E-Tech, giving the French company a full range of plug-in vans.
The new mid-size EV load-lugger will be Renault’s main attraction at the Hanover IAA Transportation show kicking off this week.
The Trafic E-Tech Electric will feature the same 52kWh battery as the Master offering a claimed WLTP driving range of 240km – more than enough for urban couriers and so-called ‘last-mile’ logistics.
The battery will power a 90kW electric drive motor. Torque figures are yet to be detailed, though Renault did say towing would be limited to 750kg.
Two Trafic E-Tech Electric body styles will be offered measuring 5.08m long and 5.48m long, with storage volumes of between 5.8 cubic-metres and 8.9 cubic-metres depending on roof.
Payload maxes out at 1.1 tonnes.
Renault hasn’t discussed charging times at this stage, but it’ll support 7kW and 22kW AC charging, and 50kW DC charging.
The company is yet to reveal launch timing for the Trafic E-Tech.
Australia
Renault’s local distributor is all aboard the EV train, with the Kangoo E-Tech set for a 2023 launch and the Master E-Tech on track to arrive in 2024. It will also launch the Megane E-Tech crossover next year.
Commenting on the Trafic E-Tech, all Renault Australia would say at this early stage regarding the local launch was: “We are excited about our new electrified van range. For Australia, this starts with the all-new a Kangoo E-Tech which arrives in early 2023”.
The heavily updated Trafic diesel range has just gone on sale here, with our review here. The Trafic has long been Renault’s top-selling van so the EV seems a sure thing for this market at some point once supply allows.
While there aren’t many EV vans currently available – the outgoing Kangoo Z.E. having long been the sole option – there’s definitely fleet demand and an array of options coming soon.
Earlier this week we received details on the Mercedes-Benz eVito. Ford is bringing the e-Transit (2023) and smaller e-Transit Custom (2024) to Australia, while Peugeot has indicated it sees a market for the electric vans it offers in Europe locally.
Volkswagen also has plans for the ID. Buzz Cargo in Australia, but again not until 2024 at the earliest. We’re also expecting China’s LDV to announce an electric Deliver 9 for this market soon.
