Police impound Nissan GT-R after near 190km/h motorway blast

A Nissan GT-R owner will be without their supercar-killing machine for the next three months – and without a licence for half a year – after being caught driving at nearly double the speed limit on a Sydney motorway.

On Sunday December 8, Bankstown Highway Patrol Officers detected a Nissan GT-R being driven at 125km/h on the M5 Motorway in Revesby, which has a signposted speed limit of 100km/h.

While this would usually result in a fine of $542 and four demerit points, the GT-R was then observed accelerating up to 189km/h.

Police officers later attended the address of the car’s owner, where both the GT-R and its driver were identified.

The driver’s licence was suspended on the spot for six months, while they were also issued a $2794 fine.

Meanwhile, the Nissan GT-R was impounded for three months, with its number plates also seized.

Unlike a handful of other Australian jurisdictions, New South Wales police don’t have the power to seize and crush a vehicle involved in dangerous driving.
