Polestar has opened its first flagship Australian ‘Space’ retail location, situated at Melbourne’s massive Chadstone Shopping Centre.
The company already has Spaces in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Hobart, but these are seen as interim solutions and act more as customer handover points.
Compared to the other locations, this flagship Polestar Space in Chadstone is more permanent and aligns closer to the brand’s minimalist philosophy.
Visitors to the shopping centre are able to explore the Space at their own pace, or engage with the staff to get information about the Polestar 2 and electric vehicle (EV) ownership.
From February guests will be able to book a test drive or arrange collection of their new vehicle from the shopping centre.
This will supplement the existing test drive and handover point in Port Melbourne.
“We are delighted to open Australia’s first highly anticipated Polestar Melbourne Space at Chadstone Shopping Centre,” said Polestar Australia managing director Samantha Johnson.
“We welcome the opportunity to share our new home with customers and visitors interested to learn more about electric vehicle ownership, especially in Australia where demand for electric vehicles is particularly high at the moment.
“Polestar is excited to be part of Australia’s move to a more sustainable, electric future with its first retail Space in Melbourne, and looks forward to the concept extending to other locations in due course,” Ms Johnson added.
Australia is considered an important launch market for Polestar. It currently offers the Polestar 2 high-riding liftback locally, although there’s a broad range of future products that are all on track to come Down Under.
The company has bold expansion plans. It wants to launch a new model every year between now and 2024, and will expand into 30 markets by 2030. It also intends to grow its sales from 29,000 per year to 290,000 per year by 2025.
In October this year Polestar revealed its much-teased Polestar 3 SUV that’s built on the same SPA2 architecture as the Volvo EX90.
The Polestar 3 is set to join the line-up from late 2023 in North America, Europe and China, and 2024 for other regions, including Australia.
The smaller Polestar 4 crossover is set to be revealed in 2023, and the Polestar 5 four-door GT will arrive in 2024 – bringing the Polestar Precept concept car to life.
Polestar also recently announced it’s building a production version of its O2 concept, called the Polestar 6, which will launch in 2026.
Polestar is a Sweden-based joint venture company run by Volvo and its Chinese parent Geely Holding, and earlier this year was listed on the NASDAQ after a SPAC IPO.
