The Mitsubishi Triton will now be available with the choice of a decreased payload, allowing buyers to access a broader range of finance options.

In Australia, private novated leases can only be provided for vehicles with a payload capacity of less than 1000kg – something the new Mitsubishi Triton doesn’t have, as all variants can hold more than one tonne.

That’s changed now, as the Triton GLS and GSR are soon rolling off the production line with the option of a sub-1000kg payload capacity, allowing private customers to buy the ute through a novated lease.

“We have also taken on feedback from dealers, media and most importantly our customer base. The result is the introduction of an enhanced model range with the addition of variants that offer payloads of under 1000kg,” said Mitsubishi Australia CEO, Shaun Westcott.

Mitsubishi is yet to detail the optional reduced payload figure of the two variants, though they will also continue to be available with their higher capacities.

Despite the changes Mitsubishi hasn’t adjusted the prices of the relevant grades, which start from $59,090 before on-roads for the GLS, and $63,840 before on-roads for the GSR.

It’s understood the Mitsubishi Triton’s 3500kg braked towing capacity is unchanged across the range.

All examples of the Mitsubishi Triton are powered by a 2.4-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine, producing up to 150kW of power at 3500rpm and 470Nm of torque from 1500-2750rpm.

A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, though a six-speed manual is yet to arrive in Australia.
