Chinese-owned MG’s steady rise in the Australian market continued in November, with the ZS crossover ranking third in the hotly-contested small SUV class.

The company registered 1133 units last month, giving it 10.7 per cent share in November and bringing the year-to-date tally to 4484 sales.

Compared to November 2019, the ZS was up by a massive 158.7 per cent (1133 v 438 units). Year-to-date, the MG is still a healthy 28.5 per cent ahead (4484 v 3489 units) of the same period in 2019.

Only two rivals managed to shift more units last month, those being the Mitsubishi ASX (1465 units) and the Hyundai Kona (1453 units). Closely behind the MG were the Kia Seltos (1058 units) and Mazda CX-30 (1038 units).

The sales performance was no doubt helped by the recent launches of the electric ZS EV and the new ZST – the latter being marketed as a separate model line, despite being a heavily facelifted version of the ZS.

It’s not just the ZS that’s performing strongly for MG. The city-sized MG3 hatch is now leading the light car segment with 20 per cent market share year-to-date (6451 units), while the new HS mid-sized SUV is adding solid incremental volume that’s more than surpassed the performance of its GS predecessor.

As a whole, the MG brand is up 75.2 per cent YTD with 13,329 units sold to the end of November, with last month’s result of 2021 sales a 133.4 per cent improvement on November 2019.
