The MG 3 is unchanged for 2021 and continues to offer regular drive-away pricing that helps it undercut key rivals.
MG mustn’t want to mess with success – the MG 3 is now, after all, Australia’s best-selling light car.
UPDATE, 7/5/2021 – MG has confirmed drive-away pricing for the MG 3 has increased by $800. We’ve updated this article and brought it forward.
In 2020, this budget offering from China had just under 20 per cent share of its segment, with the silver medal going to the Toyota Yaris with 13.9 per cent.
The MG 3 was also one of only three light cars to see a sales increase last year, while it continues to outsell smaller but similarly-priced models like the Kia Picanto and Mitsubishi Mirage.
Pricing
- 2021 MG 3 Core: $17,490 (+$800)
- 2021 MG 3 Excite: $19,490 (+$800)
All prices are drive-away.
Engines
The 2021 MG 3 is available only with one powertrain: a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 82kW of power and 150Nm of torque and mated exclusively to a four-speed automatic transmission.
MG still markets the MG 3 as the MG 3 Auto even though a manual was last seen in 2017 in the pre-facelift model.
Fuel Economy
The 2021 MG 3 consumes 6.7L/100km on the combined cycle and requires more expensive 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
Dimensions
The 2021 MG 3 measures 4055mm long, 1504mm tall and 1729mm wide, with a 2520mm wheelbase.
The MG 3’s total luggage space is 307L, increasing to a maximum of 1081L with the rear seats folded.
Servicing
The 2021 MG 3 has a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
MG doesn’t currently offer capped-price servicing for the MG 3.
Safety
The MG 3 has never been crash-tested by ANCAP, though it received a disappointing three stars when assessed by Euro NCAP in 2014. It also lacks any active safety features such as autonomous emergency braking.
All 2021 MG 3 models come standard with anti-lock brakes and six airbags.
