Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 5826 examples of the 2018-19 model-year X-Class ute, over concerns the autonomous emergency braking system may not function as intended.

“The Active Brake Assist system may mistakenly detect an obstacle and brake suddenly or unexpectedly,” Mercedes-Benz says in its recall notice.

“If the vehicle brakes suddenly or unexpectedly, or comes to a complete stop, there is an increased risk of an accident and serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants or other road users.”
