After revealing its first electric SUV last year along with some preliminary specifications, Maserati has now detailed the Grecale Folgore.
The electric mid-sized SUV, a rival to the upcoming Porsche Macan EV, is set to launch overseas in 2024.
Maserati’s Australian distributor Ateco says it’s coming here but launch timing is still being finalised. A launch in the second half of 2024 is looking likely, while customer deliveries of the petrol range are imminent.
It features 205kW electric motors on each axle for total outputs of 410kW and 820Nm.
Maserati claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 220km/h.
It uses a 105kWh battery and a 400V electrical architecture, with DC fast-charging up to 150kW and AC charging up to 22kW.
Predicted range is a claimed 500km on the stricter WLTP cycle, with energy consumption of 23.6kWh/100km.
Automatic battery pre-conditioning features, while an EV routing mode helps drivers plan their journeys to optimise range and locate chargers.
Dynamic range mapping also overlays the maximum distance the car can travel on a map, which is updated in real-time according to the vehicle’s charge status and the owner’s driving style.
The all-wheel drive SUV features front wishbone and multi-link rear suspension, with air springs all round.
Maserati says the Grecale Folgore measures 2480kg, while offering 47.2:52.8 weight distribution.
Four different drive modes are available: GT, Sport, Offroad and Max Range. The latter throttles the top speed to 130km/h, reduces throttle response and adjusts the climate control.
It’s distinguished from other Grecales by its unique grille, with gloss black inserts on a slightly anodised silk black base. Maserati says, however, the front fascia is intended to resemble the flagship of the petrol-powered Grecale models, the Trofeo.
Gloss black trim is also used on the splitters, door handles, daylight opening and side skirts, while the badges and brake callipers are finished in copper. The side vents are also illuminated.
19-, 20- and 21-inch aero wheels are available, depending on the market, while down back there’s a unique diffuser.
The Folgore is also offered with a unique colour, called Rame Folgore (“copper lightning”), which is said to be inspired by the façade of the Guggenheim in Bilbao.
Inside, there’s a unique embossed pattern on the dashboard plus carbon copper interior trim. The 14-way power front sports seats are finished in Econyl, a nylon made from recycled fishing nets, carpets and fabric scraps.
The front seats are heated and ventilated, while all seats are finished in a black/tan colourway.
“Regenerated yarn” is also used for the headliner and carpet.
There’ a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a voice assistant; an 8.8-inch climate touchscreen with gesture controls; a head-up display; and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
App connectivity also allows you to adjust settings like the climate control from outside the car.
The Grecale isn’t the only Maserati to wear the Grecale badge – Italian for lightning – with the new GranTurismo also receiving the EV treatment.
