Kia Australia has broken its previous record, selling more cars in 2024 than in any year before and cracking the 80,000-unit mark.
Finishing the 2024 calendar year with 81,787 deliveries, up 7.4 per cent on 2023, Kia’s local division sat in fourth place overall behind Toyota (241,296 units), Ford (100,170) and Mazda (95,987).
The Korean brand was also significantly ahead of sister brand Hyundai (71,664), which actually saw sales fall by 4.7 per cent compared to 2023.

Leading the charge was the Sportage mid-size SUV, which saw 41.0 per cent growth to 22,210 units. Kia’s competitor to the Toyota RAV4 was 10th in the overall nameplate standings, and fourth overall in its segment.
The ageing Cerato small car range was Kia’s second best-seller in Australia last year with 15,502 registrations (up 167.5 per cent). Later this month Kia will launch the new K4, which replaces the long-running nameplate.
Kia’s top-selling Carnival people mover scored the in-house bronze medal, finishing the year with 10,080 registrations (down 10.9 per cent). While volume dropped compared to 2023, Kia still owns a whopping 83.4 per cent of the mainstream people mover segment with the Carnival.
Not far behind was the Sorento large SUV with 9791 units, up 17.0 per cent on the year prior.
Kia’s electrified models contributed a decent share too, with 5682 hybrids, 122 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and 3610 EVs contributing to the brand’s record result.
As with overall sales, the Sportage Hybrid led the charge with 3434 units; followed by the EV6 (1785), Niro Hybrid (806), Sorento Hybrid (751), Carnival Hybrid (691) and Niro EV (649).
Rounding it out were the EV5 (608) and EV9 (568), with the supply-stricken Sorento PHEV returning a minuscule 122 units.
Kia Australia announced earlier this week that its 130-strong 2025 Australian Open fleet would be entirely electrified with hybrid and all-electric models, for the first time in the brand’s 24-year partnership with the tennis Grand Slam.
The Korean brand’s momentum should continue into 2025 with several new launches including the new K4 (January), EV3 (first quarter of 2025) and Tasman (from July), as well as the facelifted Sportage (Q2 2025) and EV6 (Q1 2025).
