Hyundai is recalling more than 12,000 Velosters due to a potential fire risk.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, brake fluid may leak into the Antilock Brake System (ABS) control module,” the company says in its recall notice.
“This could cause an electrical short circuit leading to a vehicle engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.”
- A total of 12,543 vehicles are affected from 2011 to 2014

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact a Hyundai dealership to have the multi-fuse replaced, free of charge.
In the meantime, Hyundai advises you to park your Veloster in an open space and away from flammable materials and structures. Don’t park it in a garage.
