Toyota’s next-generation LandCruiser Prado has broken cover a couple of hours before its official reveal.
Images of a US-spec version, which is expected to simply be called LandCruiser, have been shared by the Kurdistan Automotive Blog on Instagram.
The account also notes it has seen engine specifications and the new SUV, at least in the US, will use a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 243kW of power and 630Nm of torque, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The images depict both the interior and exterior, which comes with two different front end treatments.
What appears to be a lower-spec model has more black plastic on its front fascia, as well as single round headlights on each side.
A higher-spec model has headlights with rectangular elements, as well as body-colour trim on its front end and a colour contrasting roof.
Toyota has drawn inspiration from its back catalogue, but where the FJ Cruiser borrowed from the FJ40 LandCruiser, this new Prado – potentially set to wear the LandCruiser 250 Series nameplate in Japan – draws from the J60-generation LandCruiser.
The company is also set to reveal the global-spec version of the new model today.
It’s likely the new Prado will be built on a version of the TNGA-F body-on-frame architecture that not only underpins the new Lexus GX, but the Lexus LX, Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, Toyota Tundra, and Toyota Tacoma.
The Prado will reportedly change little in terms of dimensions, with a length of 4825mm, width of 1885mm, and a height of 1850mm on a 2790mm wheelbase – identical to the current car, albeit 40mm lower.
We’ll know more when the next-gen model is officially unveiled today, August 2 at 11am AEST.
