Put away your dental floss and hair dryers, BYD buyers.
The Chinese company has confirmed it’s removing the polarising Build Your Dreams boot lid badging from vehicles sold in Australia.
The cosmetic change had already been confirmed for Europe and the UK.
“BYD has listened carefully to our customers, drivers and dealer partner network,” said a spokesperson for BYD Australia.
“After extensive customer, driver and dealer partner feedback in several European markets including the United Kingdom, BYD has made the decision to remove the badging and slogan “Build Your Dreams” which spells out the name alphabetically at the rear of BYD New Energy vehicles.
“BYD New Energy vehicles sold in Australia and New Zealand will now have the discrete lettering and badging of BYD at the rear of BYD vehicle models demonstrating a simpler and cleaner tailgate design.”
The change has already been made, so BYD vehicles arriving in the country will have the simpler badging.
BYD vehicles in Australia already had a simple BYD badge up front, so now both ends will match.
To the end of July, BYD has recorded 7201 sales, beating the likes of Cupra, Jeep, Renault, Skoda and SsangYong, and with only one vehicle to boot.
The Atto 3 crossover has ensconced itself as Australia’s third best-selling EV, behind only the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
More product is coming soon, with the small Dolphin hatchback due in the fourth quarter of this year and the mid-sized Seal sedan also coming soon.
BYD will also add another SUV, as well as a ute in 2024 that will differ in offering not just an electric powertrain, but also a plug-in hybrid.
The company, as of 2022, now exclusively produces plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles and has been rapidly growing its global footprint, entering markets like Europe and Japan.
