The BYD Dolphin is now $2000 cheaper following recent price cuts, with the Dynamic priced at $36,890 before on-road costs and the Premium at $42,890 before on-roads.
UPDATE, 21/06/24 – BYD has recently reduced pricing for the Dolphin range. We’ve updated this article and brought it forward.
As BYD’s Australian distributor EVDirect confirmed in March, the flagship Sport model it announced last June won’t be introduced after all due to a lack of demand.
It was set to feature performance tyres and a sportier body kit, with EVDirect also promising “tuned sports performance”.
BYD announced pricing for the Dolphin range back in June 2023, opening orders ahead of arrivals at the end of the year.
That leaves the Premium as the most powerful model.
In addition to a more powerful electric motor, the Premium swaps the standard torsion beam rear suspension for a multi-link set-up.
Even the base Dynamic, however, comes standard with power-adjustable, heated front seats and a panoramic glass roof, as well as a wide array of active safety and driver assist equipment.
Also standard across the range is a heat pump and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, allowing you to power small appliances using the battery.
To the end of May, BYD has sold 1044 examples this year, making it simultaneously the brand’s cheapest yet lowest-volume model.
It’s well behind the MG 4, with 2376 sales across the same period, but is outselling the GWM Ora (478 sales).
