Premoso – the subsidiary of Walkinshaw Group that operated Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) – is recalling the supercharged V8-powered Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 previously sold through HSV showrooms.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the transmission control valve may lose pressure,” the company says in its recall notice

“As a result, changing gears may become more difficult and the vehicle’s wheels may become momentarily locked.

“If the vehicle’s wheels become locked whilst driving, it could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

This issue isn’t exclusive to Camaro ZL1s that were remanufactured locally in right-hand drive, with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration having issued a recall for the same issue earlier this year.

While the Australian recall notice doesn’t detail the fix, the NHTSA report says affected Camaro ZL1s with the 10-speed auto will receive new transmission control module software. It said if the issue is detected, the transmission will be limited to fifth gear and a check engine light and reduced propulsion message will display.
