The third-generation Audi Q5 has landed in Australia, boasting exclusively 48V mild-hybrid powertrains at launch with plug-in hybrid power on the way.
Cost of entry is up by nearly $7600 over the outgoing model to $81,000 before on-road costs, though Audi says the base model alone has “over $10,000 of extra value” without accounting for the updated powertrains.
The high-performance SQ5 returns as a petrol-only go-fast SUV, available with a ‘purist’ edition one to go with the full-fat spec – the former priced $16,000 less in exchange for fewer features on the spec sheet.

All launch versions of the Audi Q5 and SQ5 in Australia feature the company’s ‘MHEV plus’ technology, which extends the 48V system’s capability by allowing the vehicle to drive and roll at low speeds in EV mode.
It claims to save up to 0.75L/100km on the combined cycle (more in urban settings) while contributing an 18kW/230Nm boost under load.
Audi Australia has all but confirmed the Q5 e-hybrid PHEV, which is expected in the new year and offers up to 100km of zero-emissions driving range according to global specs.
The new, swoopier Audi Q5 Sportback is also expected to arrive before the end of this year.
