The Toyota LandCruiser Prado 250 Series is arriving in Australian dealerships, and now critical figures for those looking to tow and tour in the all-new large off-road SUV have been revealed.
While Toyota has until now only detailed its 3500kg braked towing capacity – a significant upgrade on the 3000kg figure of its predecessor – it has now revealed kerb weight, gross vehicle mass (GVM) and gross combination mass (GCM) figures.
It’s good news for those looking to upgrade from their old Prado to the new model, which is closely related to the 300 Series and brings increases to all those figures compared to the 150 Series it replaces.

The new Prado’s kerb weight is up by about 150kg across the board, and its GVM has increased to match, varying between 3100kg for five-seat variants (GX and Altitude), and up to 3200kg for the flagship Kakadu.
Later versions of the previous-generation Prado had a GVM of 2990kg.
Depending on the variant, payload capacity is between 580kg and 615kg, an important figure to keep in mind when optioning accessories and loading a family’s worth of gear before going on a trek or road trip.
The Prado’s GCM (the maximum weight allowed for your vehicle and trailer combined) has also risen, in line with its increased towing capacity. The 250 Series has a GCM of 6600kg across the board, up from 5990kg.
While the new Prado can theoretically tow up to 3500kg, it can’t do so when the SUV and its contents weigh more than 3100kg, otherwise it’ll exceed its 6600kg GCM.
And that’s without factoring in tow ball down weight, which is generally accepted to be 10 per cent of whatever your trailer, caravan, boat or horse float weighs.
