LDV only recently overhauled its T60 ute, but it looks set to bring a new-generation ute to Australia.

The LDV Terron 9 has been approved for sale, with government approval documents detailing four different variants of the diesel-powered ute.

CarExpert understands it’ll launch in the first quarter of 2025 alongside its electric counterpart, the eTerron 9.

All Terron 9s pack a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 164kW of power, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The documents don’t list a torque figure, but we’d expect this to match or beat the 500Nm figure of the T60 Max Plus which uses a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel four.

It’ll be available with rear- or all-wheel drive, though it’s worth noting government approval documents can include variants that don’t end up going on sale.

The documents list rear-wheel drive versions with either a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 3320kg or 3500kg, as well as two all-wheel drive versions with the same GVM figures.

Per the documents, the new ute will be offered with either 18-inch or 20-inch wheels.

The Terron 9 measures 5500mm long, 1997mm wide and 1860mm tall on a 3300mm wheelbase, with 220mm of running clearance.

This makes it 105mm longer, 97mm wider and 41mm taller than the T60 Max Plus on a 125mm longer wheelbase.

It also makes it larger than the top-selling Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, if not as large as full-sized American pickups like the Ford F-150.

The Terron 9 had already been revealed in Chinese government approval documents. In that market it’ll be known as the Maxus Star X.

The Maxus brand name is used in most markets, but this is our first time seeing the new ute badged as an LDV.
