The facelifted Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) has finally been priced for Australia, ringing up at $84,660 before on-road costs.

Representing an increase of around $3500, the 2025 Kia Sorento GT-Line PHEV AWD remains roughly $11,000 more than the Sorento GT-Line HEV AWD.

This follows similar price increases applied to the rest of the updated Sorento range, which launched for model year 2024 (MY24).

For MY25, the wider Sorento lineup doesn’t see any pricing or specification changes, however the PHEV has been homologated to newer Euro 6e emissions standards.

The rest of the lineup, in contrast, is homologated to Euro 5 standards.

CarExpert understands the pre-facelift Sorento PHEV was already Euro 6d-compliant, but the 6e changes mean the new plug-in requires 95 RON premium unleaded (versus 91 RON before), and braked towing capacity drops from 1350kg to 1010kg.

When asked about the further rollout of Euro 6-compliant powertrains across the rest of the Kia lineup, Kia Australia’s general manager for product, Roland Rivero, said “ongoing rollout will be in line with ADR implementation timing” and the looming New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES).

Supply of electrified Sorentos remains limited for the Australian market, previously pegged at around 20 units per month for the hybrid (HEV) and 10 units per month for the PHEV.

“HEV Supply remains tight on Sorento and Carnival,” said Mr Rivero. “Whilst better with Sportage given Europe produce their own out of the Slovakian factory.”

“NVES is understood by HQ, and collectively we will take the steps necessary under NVES to minimise debits/penalties.”

The Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) runs a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine teamed with an electric motor, lithium-ion battery pack, six-speed automatic transmission and on-demand all-wheel drive.

    The petrol engine makes 132kW (5500rpm) and 265Nm (1500-4500pm) on its own, with the transmission-mounted e-motor contributing 67kW (2100-3300rpm) and 304Nm (0-2100rpm) for system outputs of 195kW and 350Nm.

Under the second-row seats is a 14kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack which can be charged via AC single-phase charging (up to 3.3kW) and weighs 140kg on its own. It’ll take 3 hours 25 minutes to charge from 15 to 95 per cent at this rate through its Type 2 port.

Kia claims pure-electric range of up to 68 kilometres (NEDC), combined fuel consumption of just 1.6L/100km, and CO2 emissions of 36g/km.

By comparison, the Sorento 2.2D AWD uses 6.1L/100km and emits 159g/km. All versions of the Sorento feature a 67-litre fuel tank.

While full specifications are still to be released, the Sorento GT-Line PHEV AWD will almost certainly draw upon the spec sheet of the existing GT-Line HEV AWD.
