The 2024 Toyota Kluger is up to $2630 more expensive after the popular large SUV was hit with price rises in March, while petrol models are no longer available to order.

UPDATE, 07/08/2024 – Following Toyota closing orders for petrol-powered Klugers, we’ve updated this article and brought it forward.

“These changes came into effect on 4 March 2024 due to increased costs and inflationary pressures both here and overseas,” a spokesperson for Toyota Australia told CarExpert.

With the March price rise, the cost of entry to the Kluger range rose to $54,420 before on-road costs – a $6770 increase on when the current-generation model debuted in 2021.

However, Toyota Australia announced on June 5 that it was closing orders for petrol-powered versions of its Kluger, RAV4, Corolla Cross, Corolla and Camry models, with only hybrid drivetrains remaining.

That means the cheapest Kluger variant is now the GX eFour hybrid, priced at $60,920 before on-roads, also a $6770 rise compared to the first iterations of the current-generation SUV.

At the top of the range, the flagship Kluger Grande eFour Hybrid is priced from $82,860 before on-road costs, making it the most expensive variant in the nameplate’s Australian history.

Deliveries of models with the 198kW/420Nm turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine are set to continue into 2025.

There aren’t any features or specification changes to the Toyota Kluger for 2024, beyond the discontinuation of petrol-powered front- and all-wheel drive models. The large crossover is now offered only as an all-wheel drive hybrid.

While the Yaris received a new entry-level hybrid variant earlier this year, Toyota Australia said it won’t do the same with the Kluger.

Instead, it expects customers to spend more in the absence of these price-leader petrol models.

“They’ll move up to the hybrid vehicle,” said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia vice president for sales, marketing and franchise operations.

“The hybrid vehicle is a compelling value proposition and we’ve always tried to continue to make it as affordable, practical as possible.

“I don’t think we’ll lose volume. Why would we? They represent such a high percentage now, and as you know demand has outstripped supply for years so I’m not expecting that there’ll be any longer-term drop.

Toyota confirmed in June the Kluger had a hybrid take rate of 76.7 per cent.
