Swedish-Chinese carmaker Polestar has officially started production of its Polestar 3 electric SUV at its facility in Chengdu, China ahead of the first local arrivals in June this year.
Additional production of the Polestar 3 is currently slated to commence in South Carolina, USA in the middle of 2024. It’s worth noting all Australian-specification models will exclusively be sourced from the Chinese factory.
Production of the Polestar 3, along with the related Volvo EX90, had previously been pushed back a number of times due to needing more time for final software development and testing.
Both electric SUVs were originally intended to go into production during the fourth quarter of 2023.
Although 2024 model year (MY24) examples of the Polestar 4 haven’t reached Australia yet, pricing and specifications for MY25 examples appeared online late last year.
The information, first published by industry guide Redbook, shows tweaked pricing for MY25 Polestar 3 models.
The entry-level Long range Dual motor will start at $132,720 before on-roads, which is $180 less than MY24 pricing.
Spec changes are yet to be confirmed, though Redbook’s spec sheets reveal the base model will gain active noise cancellation but lose rear privacy glass.
Polestar has previously confirmed the MY24 Polestar 3 will launch with the Plus pack and Pilot pack fitted as standard.
It has confirmed the Plus pack moves to the options list for MY25, but the Pilot pack remains standard fit and a mysterious Pro pack is available for $3200. It’s unclear what the latter includes.
The Pilot pack in MY24 vehicles features a head-up display, Pilot Assist, and Park Assist Pilot.
The Plus pack, in contrast, includes the following:
- 25-speaker 1610W Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos
- Soft-close doors
- Power-adjustable steering column with profile memory
- Air quality sensor and filter
- MicroTech or wool upholstery
- Repurposed aluminium trim
- Heated wiper blades
- Heated rear seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Infra-red windscreen
- Rear cargo floor “lid in lid” with bag holder
- 21-inch black diamond-cut wheels
As on the MY24, there will continue to be a separate Pilot Pack with LiDAR that costs $7500 and adds:
- Long-range LiDAR
- Additional Nvidia Drive computer
- Three additional exterior cameras, four additional ultrasonic sensors
- Front and rear camera cleaning system
The price of the Performance pack remains $9000.

Option pricing excludes the Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
The Polestar 3 is a sportier, two-row cousin to the upcoming three-row Volvo EX90.
It has a rear-biased all-wheel drive system with dual electric motors, producing total system outputs of 360kW of power and 840Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h time is a claimed 5.0 seconds.
The optional Performance Pack bumps these outputs to 380kW and 910Nm, reducing the 0-100km/h time to 4.7 seconds.
The Polestar 3 uses a liquid-cooled 111kWh lithium-ion battery (107kWh useable) with nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry.
The company touts a preliminary WLTP range figure of 610km, or up to 560km with the Performance Pack.
