Less than a day before its reveal, Lexus has given us another brief look at the fifth-generation RX SUV in a series of shadowy short looping teaser videos.
As previously confirmed, Lexus plans to globally unveil the new RX on June 1, at 10AM AEST.
Unlike a previous cropped teaser image, one of these new videos shows the full front of the upcoming RX.
Up front, the new RX retains the company’s signature large spindle grille which is flanked by headlights that have the typical L-shaped daytime running light signature. There are also large side air intakes and a sporty front bumper lip.
This front bumper design looks like an enlarged version of the unit fitted to the Lexus NX mid-size SUV in F Sport guise.
Around the back, the other teaser shows the full-width light bar that forms the lighting signature down back.
We’re yet to see the side profile of the new RX, nor a three-quarter profile. If recent Lexus models are anything to go by, it’s expected the new RX will have toned-down design elements with smoother creases and rounder surfaces than its angular predecessor.
Lexus is still remaining tight-lipped about many of the details for the new RX, including what will be under the bonnet.
The current RX is available with three choices: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 175kW of power in the RX300, a 3.5-litre V6 producing 216kW in the RX350, and a 3.5-litre V6 hybrid producing a total system output of 230kW in the RX450h.
While a hybrid is more or less guaranteed to be part of the fifth-generation range, it could use the 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup that’s currently used in the NX, instead of the current V6 hybrid.
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version could also be offered as well like the current-generation NX.

The interior of this new RX is likely going to look similar to the new NX as well. It’ll most likely have the NX’s 14.0-inch touchscreen and get rid of the track-pad style infotainment setup.
It’s unclear how many seats the fifth-generation RX will have. The current RX has five seats as standard, but there’s also the RX L which has a longer rear overhand to accommodate a third row of seats.
A report from April 2022 indicated Lexus is planning to launch a new model, dubbed the TX, which will sit above the RX. The TX will be built in Indiana alongside the upcoming stretched version of the Toyota Highlander, which is also known as the Kluger locally.

The TX, as well as the Toyota Grand Highlander, is said to feature a longer wheelbase and up to eight seats across three rows.
The Lexus RX is the luxury automaker’s second top-selling vehicle locally. It’s also the third top-selling large luxury SUV as well.
Up until April 2022, Lexus sold a total of 564 RX models. It was outsold by the BMW X5 (913 sales) and the Mercedes-Benz GLE wagon (703 sales), but outsold the likes of the Land Rover Defender (533 sales), Audi Q7 (401 sales), and the Volvo XC90 (248 sales).
