The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan has received a price rise across the range but now has DAB+ digital radio as standard.
Volkswagen has given its popular Tiguan a price rise shortly after its mid-life update.
UPDATE, 04/05/2022 – Volkswagen Australia is increasing the before on-road asking price of the Tiguan range between $1200 and $1700 from June 1, 2022. The high-performance Tiguan R isn’t included in this price increase.
“Unfortunately due to global increases in production, supplier and transport costs, certain models will have an increased RRP from June 1, 2022,” said a Volkswagen Australia spokesperson in a statement.
“We strive to ensure that any cost increase is absorbed or – where it cannot be – kept to a minimum.”
There were no standard specification changes as part of this price increase.
Pricing for the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan now starts at $42,690 before on-road costs for the 110TSI Life and extends to $59,190 before on-road costs for the 147TDI R-Line, though the range will soon be expanded with a hot R flagship which costs $68,990 before on-road costs.
These increases follow hikes of between $900 and $1200 earlier this year. These were also blamed on material and shipping cost increases and the semi-conductor situation, although DAB+ digital radio became standard across the range.
Set to join the Tiguan range in April 2022 is the hotter Tiguan R, powered by 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 235kW of power and 420Nm of torque.
It’s priced at $68,990 before on-roads costs, and Volkswagen has confirmed the list of standard equipment. You can read more here.
Also incoming is the updated seven-seat Tiguan Allspace, slated to arrive Down Under in May 2022.
The Tiguan competes in the heavily-contested medium SUV segment, which includes the top-selling Toyota RAV4.
In 2021 Volkswagen sold a total of 3772 Tiguan models. It was outsold by the Toyota RAV4 (35,751 sales), Mazda CX-5 (24,968 sales), Mitsubishi Outlander (14,572 sales), Hyundai Tucson (14,194 sales), and the Nissan X-Trail (13,860 sales), among others.
Many Volkswagen models, including the Tiguan, are currently experiencing supply issues.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
