Volkswagen's small T-Roc SUV enters 2022 largely unchanged, but for DAB digital radio and a slight price increase.
The Volkswagen T-Roc is a little more expensive for 2022, though it’s gained one extra feature.
Volkswagen is belatedly rolling out DAB digital radio across its 2022 model ranges. It’s the only change to the T-Roc for 2022.
UPDATE 21/01/22 – There’s been a price increase ranging from $800 to $900, depending on the trim level.
There have been no spec changes, besides the previous addition of DAB digital radio across the range.
Later in 2022, the hot T-Roc R is set to make the trip Down Under. Its introduction should coincide with a mid-life update for the range.
It’s expected to use the current ‘EA888’ turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque, slightly less than the newer Mk8 Golf R and Tiguan R will put out (235kW/420Nm).
In the meantime, the T-Roc is available in just two variants: the front-wheel drive 110TSI Style and the all-wheel drive 140TSI Sport.
It’s currently one of the few Volkswagens not experiencing supply issues, but sales haven’t been quite as impressive as that of the smaller T-Cross.
That model has fewer rivals in the light SUV segment, while the T-Roc competes in the small SUV segment that’s brimming with options.
To the end of August 2021, Volkswagen has sold 3483 T-Rocs. That puts it in 11th place in the segment in terms of sales, though it’s outselling older nameplates like the Suzuki Vitara and Jeep Compass as well as the Skoda Kamiq.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
The 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc is available with two powertrains.
The base 110TSI Style is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 110TSI Style is front-wheel drive.
The 140TSI Sport is all-wheel drive and uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 140kW and 320Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 110TSI Style has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 8.7 seconds while the 140TSI Sport does the sprint in 7.2 seconds.
The 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc consumes 6.2L/100km on the combined cycle in 110TSI Style guise and 7.2L/100km on the combined cycle in the 140TSI Sport.
Both require 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
The 110TSI has a 50L fuel tank and the 140TSI Sport a 55L tank.
The 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc measures 4234mm long, 1573mm tall, and 1819mm wide and rides a 2603mm wheelbase.
Cargo volume measures 445L in the 110TSI Style and 392L in the 140TSI Sport, expanding to 1290L and 1237L, respectively, with the rear seats folded.
The 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc is covered by Volkswagen’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
It’s available with either a three-year or five-year servicing care plan.
In the 110TSI Style, these cost $1200 and $1900, respectively, while in the 140TSI Sport they cost $1400 and $2300.
ANCAP has recorded a rating of five stars for the T-Roc.
That’s based on Euro NCAP testing conducted in 2017, where the T-Roc received an adult protection score of 96 per cent, a child occupant protection score of 87 per cent, a pedestrian protection score of 79 per cent, and a safety assist score of 71 per cent.
