Subaru Australia’s initial allocation of 500 BRZ coupes has officially sold out.
Pre-sales of the redesigned sports coupe started in September. The company says the first models are now arriving in Australia, with deliveries of the first allocation beginning “in the coming weeks”.
The company has yet to announce when subsequent allocations of the BRZ will arrive.
A spokesperson for Subaru Australia said it was great news the BRZ had sold out so quickly.
“At the moment we’re celebrating this success. We’ll communicate information on the next allocation in due course,” said the spokesperson.
Subaru Australia has limited stock of the 2022 BRZ, as it deals with the same component shortage issues plaguing other automakers.
It’s still beaten Toyota to the punch, with the new GR86 not arriving in local showrooms until the second half of 2022.
The redesigned BRZ gets an evolutionary exterior and interior makeover (importantly, there’s a better touchscreen). But the high-revving naturally-aspirated engine is now a larger 2.4-litre mill with outputs of 170kW and 249Nm – up 18kW and 37Nm on the old car.
Buyers are able to choose between a six-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic. All are, of course, rear-wheel drive.
At 4265mm long, 1775mm wide, and 1310mm tall on a 2575mm wheelbase, the 2022 BRZ is 25mm longer and 15mm lower than the outgoing model, with a 5mm longer wheelbase.
Subaru adds that the BRZ’s new body has approximately 60 per cent greater front lateral bending rigidity and approximately 50 per cent more torsional stiffness.
“The number of Australian customers already eagerly awaiting delivery to their driveway is testament to the great package the Subaru engineers have delivered with the next generation BRZ,” said Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read.
