It’s Porsche’s electric sequel – Taycan 2, if you will.
The upcoming 2022 Porsche Macan EV has been captured by our spy photographers for the first time.
Porsche has applied some disguise to its prototypes, with a wonky fake window line and larger headlights plus fake exhaust outlets.
Look beyond that visual trickery, however, and you’ll see a body that bears a close resemblance to the Cayenne Coupe. We also expect the headlights and tail lights on the production vehicle to closely resemble those of the Taycan.
The retractable spoiler of the prototype also looks like a go for the production vehicle, which Automobilwoche reports will begin production late in 2022.
The Macan EV will use the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that Porsche is co-developing with Audi.
It’ll underpin a range of sedans, wagons and SUVs and will complement the J1 platform, used by the Porsche Taycan and upcoming Audi E-Tron GT, which is designed for lower, sportier models.
Porsche and Audi have yet to confirm what other models will use the new PPE architecture.
We don’t yet know what electric powertrains the Macan EV will use, though we expect the model range to follow a similar naming structure to the Taycan.
The Taycan is available in 4S, Turbo and Turbo S models, with a Performance Battery Plus option on the base and 4S variants. There’s also a less powerful base model available in other markets.
Porsche’s first EV is available with either a 79.2kWh or 93.4kWh lithium-ion battery, with outputs ranging from 390kW of power and 640Nm in the regular Taycan 4S to 560kW of power and 1050Nm in the Turbo S.
The base 4S has the lowest electric range of any Taycan offered in Australia with a claimed 365km, while the Turbo offers the most at 420km.
The existing, internal combustion-powered Macan is expected to continue alongside its new electric sibling for a few years.
To keep it fresh, Porsche is readying another facelift for the ICE-powered Macan of which we recently shared photos.
