The Mirage is Mitsubishi’s last remaining passenger car in Australia, and is unchanged following a facelift in 2020.
Drive-away pricing has crept up by $1000 since then, with the Mirage ES manual now priced at $17,490 drive-away.
That means it slides under the Kia Picanto S manual, which is currently being offered at $17,990 drive-away. The larger MG 3 Core, for reference, is also priced at $17,990 drive-away and comes standard with an auto.
The Mirage received Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield grille in 2020 and, more importantly, gained autonomous emergency braking across the range plus a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Unlike the Mirage sold in Australia in the late 1990s and early 2000s, which was effectively a truncated Lancer, the current Mirage – first introduced in 2013 – is a micro car and a rival to the Kia Picanto.
The Picanto continues to be the best-selling model in this small segment, however. To the end of July 2021, Kia has sold 4174 Picantos against 583 Mirages and 327 examples of the Fiat 500/Abarth 595 family.

Engine
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 57kW of power and 100Nm of torque.
The base ES is offered with a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously-variable transmission, while the top-spec LS is CVT-only.
Fuel Economy
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage uses 4.7L/100km on the combined cycle with the manual and 5.0L/100km with the CVT.
It has a 35L fuel tank and runs on 91RON regular unleaded fuel.
Dimensions
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage measures 3795mm long, 1665mm wide and 1510mm tall, with a 2450mm wheelbase.
Boot space is 235L with the rear seats in place, measured to the top of the seat back, and 599L with them folded, measured to the roof.
Servicing and Warranty
Maintenance for the Mirage is required every 12 months or 15,000km – whichever comes first.
Mitsubishi offers 10 years of capped-price servicing. Most of these services are priced at $299 except for the first one, which is $199, and the sixth, eight and tenth services which cost $599 each.
The Mirage is covered by a 10-year/200,000km warranty, though if you have it serviced outside the Mitsubishi network that is reduced to five years or 100,000km.
Safety
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage has a five-star ANCAP rating based on testing conducted in 2013.
It received ratings of Good and Acceptable for whiplash and pedestrian protection, respectively, and an overall score of 34.07 out of 37.
The addition of standard autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection and a reversing camera would earn the Mirage some plaudits under 2022 test rules, however there’s no guarantee of a five-star rating.
Lane-departure warning is standard on the LS.
