The Honda HR-V is now in runout, ahead of the launch of a new generation in the second quarter of this year.
The outgoing generation has entered the new year largely unchanged, with prices for the four-model range starting at $31,300 drive-away.
The RS’s Crimson interior option and the VTi-LX’s optional white upholstery, however, are no longer available.
While Honda has yet to reveal pricing for the new HR-V, set to launch first in e:HEV hybrid guise, it has confirmed it’ll offer a range of model variants.
“We’ll have more range, more coverage,” said Honda Australia boss Stephen Collins.
“It won’t just be top-spec,” he added, referring to the redesigned Civic that’s currently offered in a single, highly-specified variant.
While the current HR-V has been around since 2013, it may offer something over the new model.
Government approval documents seen for the new HR-V list two engines: a 1.5-litre petrol four, likely the Japanese-market engine with 87kW of power and 142Nm of torque, and a 96kW/253Nm 1.5-litre hybrid four
The outgoing HR-V’s engine therefore appears to be more powerful than the new base engine, producing 105kW and 172Nm from a larger 1.8-litre.
All prices are drive-away.
Power in the 2022 Honda HR-V comes from a naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making 105kW of power and 172Nm of torque, sent to the front wheels through a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).
All-wheel drive is not available, regardless of which model you select.
How much fuel the 2022 Honda HR-V uses depends on the model.
Although they share an engine, the VTi, VTi-S, RS, and VTi-LX all have different wheels and body add-ons.
With that in mind, Honda claims 6.6L/100km for the VTi, 6.9L/100km for the VTi-S, 6.7L/100km for the RS, and 6.9L/100km for the VTi-LX.
All models have a 50L fuel tank and run on 91 RON regular unleaded fuel.
The 2022 Honda HR-V measures 4343mm long, 1772mm wide and 1605mm tall, with a 2610mm wheelbase.
Boot space is listed at 437L with the rear seats in place, and 1462L with them folded.
Servicing is required every 12 months or 10,000km – whichever comes first.
Since July 1, 2021, the first five services have been capped at $125. That means the HR-V costs just $625 to service over the first five years, down from $1544 previously.
As with the rest of the Honda range, the HR-V is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and comes with five years of roadside assist.
The Honda HR-V wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating on the back of testing conducted in 2015.
An update in 2019 made low-speed autonomous emergency braking standard across the range. All models also feature front, front-side and curtain airbags and a reversing camera.
VTi-S and up feature a camera-based blind-spot monitoring system and rear parking sensors, while only the top VTi-LX has forward-collision warning, lane departure warning and front parking sensors.
