GWM Haval Australia thinks the new H6 GT could almost double H6 sales.
The new coupe SUV is priced from $40,990 drive-away and is at dealers now, and it becomes the only vehicle of this style in the mainstream mid-sized SUV segment.
The company says the H6 GT could add as many as 400 sales a month to the H6’s tally, which at 2619 sales to the end of June is averaging 436 units per month.
The H6 GT is available only in front-wheel drive Lux and all-wheel drive Ultra guise, both of which share their 150kW/320Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with the core H6 range.
GWM Haval says the H6 GT has received some changes besides its sleeker body, to distinguish itself from the core wagon range.
The company says there’s an active exhaust booster for a sportier engine note, while the Ultra gets Michelin Sport tyres. Otherwise, the equipment lists are essentially the same as the comparable wagons.
Update: Haval previously said the H6 GT would have Brembo brakes, but this supplied information was incorrect.
The H6 GT Lux is priced $4000 higher than the H6 Lux wagon, while the Ultra is $3500 more than the Ultra AWD wagon.
There are no other coupe SUVs in the mainstream mid-sized SUV segment.
The Renault Arkana is similarly priced and also features coupe SUV styling, but is a smaller vehicle overall.
Coupe SUVs have traditionally been the domain of luxury brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but the body style has proliferated through various Chinese brands’ lineups in their home market.
This isn’t even the first coupe SUV from the Haval brand, which has sold the F7x coupe SUV in China since 2019.
