The Genesis G80 has received optional Sport Line and Sport packages for 2022, with a more dynamic look inside and out.
The former is offered exclusively with the entry-level turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, while the latter is offered only with the twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6.
2022 G80 2.5T models are available now, with 3.5T models arriving in March.
Genesis expects 40 per cent of G80 sales to be of models with the Sport Line or Sport package added.
The G80 range will also be bolstered in the second quarter of this year with the Electrified G80, featuring a pure-electric powertrain.
Both the new Sport Line and Sport packages feature various interior and exterior tweaks and can be added in conjunction with the existing Luxury Package.
These include dark chrome exterior trim, unique front and rear bumpers, dual exhaust outlets, and exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels with the brand’s ‘G-Matrix’ pattern.
Inside, there’s a more conventional three-spoke steering wheel, as well as real carbon trim in place of wood. Adding the Luxury Package also brings ‘V Stitch’ quilting to the seats, plus the option of Sevilla Red upholstery.
Also included in the packages are Genesis’ Road Preview Electronically Controlled Suspension, and larger brakes with four-piston monobloc front calipers.
The 3.5T Sport ups the ante with rear-wheel steering, active noise control, launch control, and a Sport+ drive mode.
The rear-wheel steering function uses an electric motor to control the steering angle of the rear wheels, which can steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds below 60km/h.
At speeds above 60km/h, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels.
Genesis says the new Sport+ mode further increases the responsiveness of the engine and the sensitivity of the steering and throttle, while adjusting the suspension, quickening shifts, and deactivating the traction control.
Prices for the 2.5T and 3.5T are up slightly – by $1100 and $2100, respectively – but there’s more standard kit for 2022.
All models get Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which uses a windscreen-mounted camera plus navigation data to identify the speed limit, and a second USB charging port in the rear.
The 2.5T also drops its controversial “lace doily” 19-inch alloy wheels for a rather different 19-inch design.
Additionally, the optional Luxury Package now includes a second-row wireless phone charger, which replaces the new, second rear USB outlet and sits in the centre armrest control console.
Finally, there are also new ‘ergo motion’ seats for the driver and front passenger with three stretching modes.
The package still costs $13,000.
